Broadband Gyan

All of us use a broadband connection from some service provider. The ISP guy connects a modem, types something in the Config page (usually 192.168.1.1) and viola, everything works.
Wondering what are those values? What if your modem went kaput and you have to re-do the process again?
Found a very nice link today which explains them in detail and what numbers you would need to enter in case of a fresh install.
